SaneBar on macOS 27
macOS 27 changed how the menu bar works, and SaneBar can no longer move or hide icons on it. Every menu bar manager broke the same way. Here is how to keep a tidy menu bar.
Still on macOS 26 or earlier?
SaneBar keeps working as before. You don't need to change anything.
Hide icons with macOS itself (free, built in)
macOS 27 can hide any app's menu bar icon for you.
- ✓ Step 1: Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- ✓ Step 2: Click Menu Bar.
- ✓ Step 3: In the list of apps, switch off each one you don't want to see. macOS keeps its icon out of the menu bar until you switch it back on.
- − Too many icons? When the bar runs out of room, macOS 27 tucks the extra icons behind an arrow at its edge.
- ✗ No hidden section: an icon is either shown or switched off. There is no group you can open with a click.

What SaneBar does on macOS 27
The last SaneBar update shows a short notice on macOS 27 instead of starting. It lists the apps you kept always hidden, opens Menu Bar settings in one click, and stops SaneBar from opening at login. You can then delete SaneBar.
SaneBar stays free and open source on GitHub. Read why it was sunset.
